Maxime Tricoire

We continue our series of portraits with Maxime, who works as Research and Development Engineer at DataThings.

→ Hello Maxime, what’s your position/role at DataThings?

Maxime: Hi, I’m a R&D Engineer in the core team.

→ In a few words, tell us for what kind of clients and what kinds of projects do you work?

Maxime: The core team is in charge of developing our flagship product GreyCat and the tooling associated to it.

→ Which technologies/programming languages do you use on a daily basis?

Maxime: Mainly TypeScript because a huge part of the tooling is targetting the Web, but also C and Rust.

→ What is the best aspect of your job?

Maxime: The diversity of the tasks is the cool thing about the core team. I can be working on GreyCat in the morning, in C, and then in the afternoon switch to a React component in TypeScript.

→ Are you more formal or relaxed at the work?

Maxime: I'd say relaxed.

→ What professional experience has shaped you the most?

Maxime: I’d say my current position did. The stakes are high when you decide to be a part of the creation of a new database (GreyCat), so you gotta step-up in many different fields. It is demanding and enlightening at the same time.

→ Home office or on-site?

Maxime: Living in France, I’m the only guy in DataThings working 100% remotely. So home office it is.

→ DataThings we have collaborators from very different backgrounds, can you tell us where you come from?

Maxime: I come from “Charente-Maritime” a south-west region in France. Same as our CTO at DataThings (François Fouquet).

→ What is your background?

Maxime: I have a DUT in Génie Logiciel, then moved on to acquire a Master in the same field. Then joined a research team in Rennes (Diverse, INRIA) that is also specialized in languages and modeling. Basically been doing modeling in IT all my uni years.

→ Let’s switch with a lighter questions: Oysters or Cognac? :D

Maxime: Oysters.

→ Sea or mountains?

Maxime: Undoubtedly sea.

→ At the office's table soccer, do you rather play with “attackers” or “defenders”?

Maxime: I don’t play table soccer that much.

→ Do you have any hobbies?

Maxime: Video games and coding

→ What attracted you to DataThings?

Maxime: I’ve been working closely with François Fouquet (DataThings’ CTO) since his thesis work back in 2013. Almost 10 years now. Yay. Even though I was working on other European Projects for 5 years prior to joining DT, I’ve always kept in touch with François & Gregory and that’s why I’m here today.

→ What would you say to someone willing to apply at DataThings?

Maxime: If you want to integrate a company that tries to change the way people interact with big data, then DataThings is a very good pick. Come join us.

→ Great! Maxime thank you for your time, and one last question. What is your favorite place to walk or relax in Luxembourg? 😎

Maxime: A bar. You need to walk to it, and then relax.
